Weather closings

To open on a "snow day" or not to open? That is the question as the snow continues to fall outside. Opening would be good. The kids are home from school. They need a warm, friendly place to hang out. There is work to be done. There are donations to process. The courier has two weeks worth of books-in-transit for us and we have the same for him. Other businesses are open. People need books to read while snowbound. Yes, opening would be good.

Still, the snow continues to fall. The librarian's minivan is buried. There is ice under the snow. Not only the roads but also the sidewalks are slick and hazardous. And the snow continues to fall. Clearing the sidewalks is not just a one-time thing. The library is not an essential service and it's likely that travel will soon be recommended only for essentials. The staff is hunkered down in their nice warm homes with snow-covered hills between them and the library.  Multiple bookkeeping-type tasks that need to be done can be done offsite. Overdrive is still open at

The decision must be made. The snow continues to fall. The library will be closed on Friday, December 6th. Our apologies for the inconvenience, particularly to those who will not be reading this because they come to the library for their internet access.
